By using Voyager, the online catalog. Voyager will tell you what books, government documents, conference proceedings, and technical reports the library owns. Voyager will also show you if materials are available in the library, and where they are located. If an item is charged (checked out to another library user), Voyager will tell you when it is due back in the library. [Back to Top]

  10. I found a book in Voyager, but it has no call number. It says "Ask at the Reference Desk." What does this mean?

  11. Voyager indicates that the Hunt Library owns the material I need, but I can't find it. What should I do?

First, consult with a Reference Librarian. They can confirm the information that you received in Voyager. If the material cannot be found, then they will direct you to the Circulation Desk in order to make a formal request for the material to be searched for. We recommend not putting in an ILL request for a lost item until the Circulation Department has conducted a thorough search and the status has been changed to Lost. [Back to Top]

  13. What is a call number?

The call number of an item in Voyager indicates the location of that item in the Hunt Library. If you have trouble interpreting the call number or location, please ask for help at the Reference Desk. [Back to Top]

  14. Where do I find a particular call number within the library?

Three (3) important elements are necessary to locate each item: Location, Call Number, and Status.

The Location tells the general area in the library where the item is kept (Reference, Main Shelves, etc.). If an item is listed as being on "Main Shelves," note the particular floor where your item is located (A-H 2nd floor; J-S 3rd floor; T-Z 1st floor). This floor plan will show you the different areas of the library.

The Call Number reveals where the item is located on the shelf (Call Numbers are arranged alphabetically).

The Status shows whether or not the item is currently checked out (and, if so, when it is due). If the Status is On Shelf, the item should be on the shelf in its designated place.
